How to get the best out of our Wiki.

The navigation tabs on the left side of the screen take you directly to a page loaded with information related to that heading. The best thing to do is just explore the site - not only does it have a comprehensive coverage of what the students have been learning about, but, also contains a great deal of information and down loadable games for students to continue their learning at home.

Our Learning Intentions for 2012 are:

Relating to Others, Managing Self, Participating & Contributing, Values

Communicate and learn information about each other. (All year)..
Learn about honesty, friendship, respect, fairness, responsibility. (All year).
Work in groups to complete assigned activities. (All year).
Learn about community - recycling, reducing and re-using. (All year).
Accepting and managing responsibilities within the classroom. (All year).
We are learning about completing tasks. (All year).
We are learning to manage our own learning. (All year).

Numeracy

Learn the times tables 2, 5 and 10 first and then 3, 4 6, 7, 8, 9. (All year).
Learn how to carry out simple subtraction sums. (All year).
Learn some strategies that enable us to calculate sums when we do not have instant recall of the answer. (All year).
(These strategies could involve using a number line, rounding, doubling and halving, using place value.)
Solve addition sums by adding the tens and then the ones when doubling 32+32= 30+30+2+2 (All year).
Learn how to use simple graphs and manipulate the information they contain. (Term Four).
To be able to read, write and say numbers correctly, including bigger numbers. (All year).
We are learning how to turn our division problems into multiplication problems. (All year).
Use grocery adverts to help us learn to round numbers up so they are easier numbers to solve problems with. (Term One).

Literacy

We are learning about interesting adjectives and strong verbs. (All year).
We are learning to read and understand what we are reading. (All year).
We are learning to use a dictionary and a thesaurus. (All year).
Describe characters in our books. (Venn diagrams). (All year).
Understand how a story is made; such as characters, scenes, problems and solution. (All year).
To improve our known sight vocabulary and to spell these words correctly. (All year).

Stay focused on the topic and narrow our research to answer the questions fully. (All year).
We are learning how to note take and then make these into sentences. (All year).

Thinking

Use Venn and PMI charts to describe and compare events. (All year).
Ask reflection questions in pairs and groups. (All year).
Form 'good' questions to inform our Inquiry topic. (All year).
Use a KWHL chart to start an Inquiry topic. (All year).

Creativity

Design and create paper mache 3D fish (this artwork includes paper mache manipulation, dye and paint as well as using a hot glue gun). As lifelike as possible. (Term One).
Design and create "Wearable Art". Model this masterpiece in a "Fashion Show". (Term One).

Physical Education

Swim freestyle (for some the beginning is to put our faces in the water and blow bubbles and learn to use a flutter board to practice freestyle stroke and breathing). (Term One).
Learn and put into practice 'fair play' when playing competitive sport.
Improve our overall level of general physical fitness. (All year).
Learn how to pass a baton and compete in a running relay race. (Term One).
Learn how to complete a high jump and a long jump. (Term One).

Maori

Follow commands in Maori. (All year).

ICT

Use pages and keynote to present our work. (All Year).
Use the computer to find accurate information for our Inquiry topic. (All Year).
